Realized I'm probably posting too much random crap on facebook that's probably better suited to a blog, so trying this again...I'm sure it'll only last a couple days...
Guess I'll start with my most recent facebookl post...
So first Ryan has an ear infection, her 4th in 4mo. Took her to the doctor, got abx, both the kids said they were hungry so we went to Brann's for free steak Wednesday. Everything was going well until it was time to leave. Both kids had to go to the bathroom so Kyle went in the mens and I took Ryan into the womens. When we walked out of the bathroom Kyle was standing there and had a strange look on his face then he started crying. I was asking what happened, did someone talk to him? Did something happen in the bathroom? He said his arm got stuck in the door. It all didn't really make sense but he was sobbing by this time. I lifted up his shirt sleeve and it looked like someone took a bite out of his arm! he said he was walking out of the bathroom and held the door open for someone, then walked out and was apparently too close to the hinge side of the door and it shut on his arm. To make it worse apparently he just stayed there trapped in the door crying, said he didn't want to yell for help because it would be rude to yell in a restaurant :( finally he said a family walked in the front door and a boy a little older than him saw he was crying and opened the door so he could get unstuck.
His arm is looking a little better, but it was a rough night with hours of crying and many layers of missing skin...and then Ryan was crying too because apparently I was only worried about Kyle and wasn't worried about her :/ and Kyle is worried his arm won't heal before his competition this weekend and his hip hop shirt is sleeveless and will show this (his words...I told him it was ok and they wouldn't get marked down for him having a booboo)
Just breaks my heart picturing him with his upper arm stuck in that heavy bathroom door :***( and can't quite figure out how out of everyone sitting waiting for a table 2' from where he was stuck, and the hostess also standing right there that no one did anything.

Diva tendencies at 2 1/2
Ryan is 2 years 8 months and 6 days old and today she demanded that I give her the car keys so she could go shopping. Then she proceeded to tell me that she needed to go shopping to buy a DS. I informed her that she wasn't old enough to drive to which she said "yes I am, I'm a big girl!" and also told her she didn't have enough money to buy a DS ($129) but she told me she did. At first it was funny, she was walking around with a huge Hello Kitty bag/purse filled with stuffed animals and her blankie and holding it on her arm like a purse, and she was wearing a pair of my heels and had her pretend Barbie keys in hand. She kept saying "bye, I'm going shopping" and would walk to the other end of the house, then come back and say "hi, I'm home" and would do this over and over. Somehow it went from funny pretend play to all out serious I-want-to-drive-a-car demands, which then resulted in in two hours of crying, sobbing, hysterics, screaming "give me the keys!!! I want to drive the car!!!" Every time I would tell her no, that she wasn't old enough or big enough to drive. She kept saying "yes I am, I'm a big girl" as though after saying that I would just say "oh, ok, here's the keys" She really thought she was going to change my mind.
Funny looking back on it, but it was a long day!

Kyle can read?!?!
wow, two posts in one day...
Earlier Kyle and Ryan were sitting on my bed, I told Kyle to read Ryan a book, so he grabbed one of the books that was sitting there. I told him to just look at the pictures and make up the words. I was half-listening and after a couple of pages I realized he was actually reading the book. I went and watched over his shoulder and he read the whole thing, cover to cover, with me only helping on a few words. The book was Froggy Goes To School which is 32 pages and recommended for ages 4-8! I am so proud of him! I should also mention that he got this book a year ago for Christmas and we probably read it to him then but haven't read it since, so he wasn't just reciting it from memory.

trying again...
I had a good start and then fizzled out, but had a couple funny stories so figured I'd put them here so I don't forget...
Ryan just had the biggest freak out, I wish I had got it on videotape. She was in Kyle's room, then heard the Kai-lan (a cartoon on Nick Jr.) song coming from the family room and came running into our bedroom with her hands over her head waving them back and forth and screaming and shaking her head back and forth and then started yelling "kai-lan, kai-lan!", it was hillarious!
She's started this new thing where when we put her down for a nap or at bedtime right before we walk out the door she'll say "know what?" then you say "what?" and she'll say some random thing. Last night she said "Opa's in Florida!", yesterday afternoon and this afternoon she said "I'm going on an airplane!" Will have to keep a list of the funny ones she comes up with.
Last week Kyle told me before he went to bed "mom, you're the nicest mom a boy could ask for!" Not sure where he came up with that, I think he must have wanted something, not sure what though!
that's all I've got for now, maybe I'll go back and fill in the last month and a half and add some pics.

the longest day ever...so far
Ryan figured out how to climb out of her crib a couple of days ago, since then naps and nighttime sleep have been pretty much non-existent. After it taking her two hours to fall asleep for her nap this afternoon, where she finally fell asleep on the floor of her closet while wearing two tutus and a princess dress, with her lights on, I thought that maybe if we got her a cute toddler bed that she would love it so much that she'd want to sleep in it. Yeah, right. After poor Chuck going to Wal-Mart where I had already called and was told three times that yes they did have a Dora toddler bed, he got there and it was a Disney Princess toddler bed. She just isn't that into the princess thing, neither am I and definitely don't want to push her into it, but she LOVES Dora. On a fluke I called KMart to see if they had the Dora toddler bed even though on their website it had said online only and they did have it, so off to KMart he went.
We put the box with the bed in it under the tree and told her that Santa came early to bring her the bed. She was very excited and said she was a big girl now and didn't need a crib anymore and she was going to sleep in her Dora bed. We spent about an hour putting the bed together and by the time we were done it was her bedtime. She was excited to see it in her room with all of her blankets on it and her animals and baby dolls arranged by her pillow. She even posed for pictures in her bed...then promptly jumped out and said she would not go to sleep. I figured instead of spending two hours fighting with her to go to sleep I'd just let her stay up until she was so tired that she'd pass right out. Every few minutes I'd say something about going to sleep in her new bed. She told me "I no like my new bed, Santa take it back" Sigh. Finally it was about 10:30, so 2+ hrs past her normal bedtime and she was still protesting, so I just put her in her bed, said goodnight and shut the door, and she was right behind me banging at the door. I let her bang away for a few minutes then she said she had to go potty so I took her to the bathroom where we talked for about 5min about going to sleep in her new bed. I finally got her to go back into the bed and read her two Dora bedtime stories. Then we talked for a couple more minutes about Christmas and I told her that if she wanted presents on Christmas morning that she had to stay in bed...so mean.
I think she may have actually stayed in bed this time, she wasn't right behind me at the door, and now I'm hiding in the basement until I'm sure the coast is clear!
In Kyle news he got a book from his Uncle Mark and Aunt Marci about how everyone has an invisible bucket and you can fill up other peoples buckets by being nice to them and saying nice things, and that also fills up your own bucket because it makes you feel good to do those things. We read the book last night and he was really nice to both Ryan and I today and said a bunch of times that he was trying to fill our buckets. He seemed really happy and proud of himself. Now if he just keeps it up...

new computer
I picked up a new computer the other day and just set it up this evening. I have my own laptop and Chuck has a work laptop but I don't really want the kids playing on my laptop and messing it up, like changing the settings so that the screen is turned sideways (which is what Ryan did to Chuck's laptop). So, now the kids have a nicer computer than I do. It's fast and has a beautiful, huge, 22" lcd monitor. I'm jealous. As soon as I set it up Kyle promptly logged on to Webkinz, played a couple games and then bought some random Webkinz crap for about 860 webkinz cash. I set up our old, barely working, computer on the table next to the new one hoping Ryan will play on it even if it's just typing away in notepad, seems to be what she likes to do most.
What's funny is that I bought Kyle the Digital Arts & Crafts Studio for Christmas, um, I mean, Santa got it for him, and I had initially figured I'd give in and hook it up to my laptop but then decided the kids would need a computer eventually anyway, so now we have a $700 computer to play a $35 game.

getting started
I've been wanting to start a blog for ages to document things about the kids and what's going on with them. Wish I would have done it 5.5yrs ago, but I guess it's better late than never, right?
